Day 19

Writing 2026

I took Lydia with me to the Buddhist Centre, having first been for a walk in the morning.

She was fine in her crate in the car while I worked for an hour – sweeping up leaves around the accommodation blocks – and then I took her out to stretch her legs and sniff around. She seemed to like it, and spontaneously sat when a man walked by – not a hint of a bark at all.

I worked for about another hour, took her out for another short walk and then we headed for home.

I felt so much better after my afternoon exertions than before and worked up an appetite for a lovely – and quite spicy – lamb curry this evening.

We’re both quite tired now – ready for a bit of relaxation followed by ‘sleepy time’.

Day 7

Writing again

Lydia likes Peshwari nan.  I know this because she stole a piece off Trev’s plate last night, just as he was sitting down to enjoy it with his curry.

I also like Peshwari nan, but only with a curry that is rich in flavour and spicy, like the one I had last night.  I reheated what I couldn’t eat last night and ate it for breakfast. Delicious.

After a busy few days, I’m resting today, only putting in a bit of washing and loading the dishwasher.  Trev had unloaded the dishwasher, put the pots and pans and cutlery away and swept the kitchen floor, and he’s doing the shopping for tonight’s tea.

I had a good sleep last night, aided, I’m sure, by the physical work and different activities I’ve been doing as well as cutting out caffeine in the afternoons. The wine helped too, not that I’m planning to or do drink wine every night; I’m sticking to weekends only for the foreseeable.

So, apart from my walk with Lydia this morning and the few – very few – bits and pieces of housework I’ve done, it’s definitely been and still is a rest day for me.  Still struggling to find much that interests me on the telly, I might do a bit of reading now. I bought a beautiful bookmark from one of the craft stalls at yesterday’s Christmas fayre, although the book I’m reading at the moment is on my Kindle.

Day 26 – lifting

Writing into Life

When I wake, my thoughts again go round to different people in my life.

Then a message from a friend invites me round for a curry at her house later.  It’s a welcome invitation which I gladly accept. I’ve started being able to say ‘yes’ to things again.  While I still want and need lots of time to do little or nothing, it will be good to spend a few hours with my friend.

Lydia, I think, is missing the warm weather as it’s raining again today.  We had our morning walk without getting too wet and I’ve now turned the heating on in the house.

Trev has the ‘Nest’ app on his phone so I adjusted the thermostat controls manually. He would have done it remotely if I’d asked but he may well be in the middle of a museum visit, or driving. There’s an app for pretty much everything these days but it’s good to not be totally dependent on them either.

Having finished the last episode of the latest series of ‘Married at First Sight: Australia’ last night, I decide to start watching the latest series of MAFS: New Zealand.  I haven’t done this much binge-watching since Covid but it’s good at the moment just to switch off and watch.

Later …

Before setting off to visit my friend, I meditate for about 20 minutes.  After curry combined with kind conversation, I feel a small but still perceptible change in mood; something shifting and lifting. The lift, like the invitation, is very welcome.
